Waxing Before & After Care
Generally, it is best for clients to get a bikini or Brazilian wax at least a few days before or after their periods. The closer the treatment is to the actual period, the more sensitive the body becomes because the immune system is lowered, making it more susceptible to infection.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing after treatments to avoid irritation caused by friction or rubbing.
Plus, a warm shower opens up your pores so the hair will come out easier. If you have to use the bathroom it's ok if you end up doing that right before you walk in for the wax. It's better to not have to worry about holding it while your waxer is working...
You don't want to be stressed out when you’re getting a wax. If you are tense you're more likely to flex your muscles, which will then hold the hair follicle more making the hair hurt more coming out. I calm myself with the shower but if you need to meditate go ahead.
Avoid Alcohol or Blood Thinners.
Refrain from alcohol or blood thinners. These can increase your chances of sensitivity and be more vulnerable to lifting and sensitivity during waxing.
Waxing is never done on clients taking Accutane and is not recommended for clients taking Retin A, Renova, Differin or other types of skin thinning acne medications. Please read the label carefully and consult with your doctor if you are taking any medication or using any topical cream that contains these medications.
Be Breakout Free.
Waxing is never done on clients having any form of skin lesion or open wound. This increases the change of an outbreak, spread of virus or infection.
No Vigorous Activity- Not a good idea to get really sweaty down there after that sort of process. You'll be able to tell based on how you feel if you will follow this rule.
Exfoliate- To keep from getting ingrown hairs you need to exfoliate once in a while. Sugar scrubs are a good choice but be gentle with your lady parts, no need to scrub like you're cleaning a burnt dishpan. Some people are more prone to ingrowns and some people aren't. It's just a good idea to keep clean and not let dead skin build up. In general keep clean.
Expect to be sensitive. For 48 hours after the treatment, the area will be more sensitive than usual. You can apply a cold compresses and an anti-inflammatory cream, such as hydrocortisone, if the skin is especially tender.
Avoid use warm water. Hold off on taking hot baths for at least two hours, but you should bathe after waxing to further clean the area. Resist the sauna and steam room for at least 48 hours.
Abstain from sex. Medical experts recommend waiting 48 hours after any type of bikini or Brazilian wax before engaging in sex. This time period is when your body can be most susceptible to outside bacteria, which can potentially cause an infection. For your safety and health, it is better to abstain, but is not required. It is really a personal choice.
Avoid UV rays. Steer clear of tanning beds and sunbathing for at least 48 hours, and always where sun protection.
Watch out for acidic products. Refrain from the use of any products containing acid, such as alpha hydroxy, glycolic acid and salicylic acid, for 48 hours. Acids, although helpful for exfoliating the skin and helping prevent bumps and ingrown hairs after hair removal, can be irritating to the skin during the first 48 hours, since the waxing process already exfoliates the top layers of skin during the treatment.
Remember these aren't hard and fast rules. I just want to help my clients looking for information. I hope what I've written has helped.
